vietnam-vacations-nghean-img-02The Central Nghe An provincial People’s Committee has decided to invest 87.5 billion VND in the preservation and promotion of the cultures of ethnic minority groups.

38.2 will be used to preserve intangible culture such as folk literature, music, dances and folk games of Thai, Mong, Kho Mu, O Du and Tho ethnic groups, script from the Thai and Mong ethnic groups, and the language of the O Du ethnic group.

The rest will be invested in the preservation of tangible cultural heritage, including the architecture of the stilt-houses of Thai and O Du ethnic groups, clothes worn by the Thai, Mong, O Du, Tho and Kho Mu ethnic groups, and brocade products.

The project starts in September, 2007 and is scheduled to be completed by 2010.

Over the past year, the province has passed many policies to preserve and develop the culture of ethnic groups such as encouraging organizations and families of ethnic groups to present cultural objects to provincial museum and cultural centers in mountainous districts.

The province has also encouraged communities and families of Thai, Tho, Khmo, O Du and Mong ethnic groups to restore, preserve and promote their own specific cultures, organize competitions to create folk songs, and popularize the writings of Mong and Thai ethnic groups in primary and secondary schools in Mong and Thai ethnic-inhabited areas.

Nghe An projects met with iron fist

vietnam-vacations-nghean-img-01Scores of indolent Nghe An province real estate projects are in danger of having their licences revoked. Nghe An provincial People’s Committee recently carried out an investigation to dig up the truth as to why many projects were behind schedule in the central province.

After consulting the province’s departments of Construction, Planning and Investment, Natural Resources and Environment the people’s committee revoked four licences for projects which had not broken ground.

The Cua Nam Lake tourism and entertainment area invested by Truong Giang Saigon Joint Stock Company, the Vocational Training and CITD Computing Development Centre invested by Phong Dong Computing Development and Communication Limited Company, the Product Dealing Centre’s representative office invested by Vietnam Milk Company and a tourism and trading centre invested by Nghe An Container Joint Stock Company all got the bullet.

Tran Duc Bac, vice director of province’s Department of Planning and Investment’s Investment Promotion Centre, said: “The main reason investors were unable to implement the projects was a lack of capital. In some cases, investors failed in signing joint venture contracts with other units rich in finance.” Bac said some developers were land speculators as the projects mostly occupied prime locations.

“These revoked projects will be a warning to investors who have slowed down their construction progress,” Bac said.

Currently, eight projects with prime locations in Vinh City are in danger of being revoked. Bac said the projects were granted extensions till late this year due to banks’ tighter credit policies, sky-high interest rates, increased building material prices and the gloomy real estate market.

Bac said the province would also strictly examine investors’ financial standings before submitting projects to the people’s committee for approval.
